Why use a spacer with a puffer?

Why use a spacer with a puffer? When using a spacer with a puffer you receive a more effective dose of Ventolin as more is able to get into the lungs.

If there is no spacer available to a patient who needs one, you can improvise by using a plastic bottle.

All you need to do is cut a hole in the bottom and poke the puffer in the space.

When administering the puffer simply put your mouth over the mouth piece of the bottle and use the same technique as you would with a regular spacer.
